Understanding Attackers and your Attack Surface: A Cybersecurity Must Have

Between Metasploit, pen tests, and our SOCs, Rapid7 sees a lot of "very creative behavior". In this talk, Wade Woolwine will brief you on an interesting attack on a customer: Maldoc, Powershell, the works. You'll learn how our Managed Detection and Response service investigates this type of attacker behavior, and how those findings are translated into proactive detections. Additionally, Pat Haley will discuss how Rapid7's products and services can be used to evaluate and prioritize attack surface mitigation, enabling threat detection and incident response to make it harder in the first place for the attackers.

Wade brings almost 20 years of experience in various disciplines of IT and information security to the table. With technical skills ranging from programming, enterprise administration, penetration testing, application security, enterprise security, threat detection and incident response, Wade has had the opportunity to work in some of the most challenging and rewarding environments. Additionally, he brings people management and leadership experience with a focus on the business, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and career development for his teams. Currently a Director at Rapid7, Wade leads the managed threat detection and incident response programs.

Patrick Haley

Senior Sales Engineer, Rapid7

Patrick Haley is a Senior Sales Engineer for Rapid7. In this role, he helps architect IT security data and analytics solutions that enable organizations to collect, contextualize, and analyze the security data they need to fight an increasingly deceptive and pervasive adversary. Prior to Rapid7, Patrick has worked in various customer facing, technical positions (from pre-sales to implementation and support) helping organizations secure their data and build automated workflow solutions.
